Wildcats’ Spring Game Thursday, May 17
CENTRAL — Central High fans will get their first look at the 2012 Central Wildcat football team during the Annual Central Spring Football game at 7 p.m. next Thursday, May 17 at Wildcat Stadium. Admission is $5 for all.
Before the game, everyone is invited to a crawfish boil sponsored by the Wildcat Backers from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Meals are $10 for three pounds of crawfish, along with corn and potatoes.
It will be “Football in May” with the Wildcat Band playing and the cheerleaders, Kittens, and Silks on the field in action. The concession stand will be open for business.
Veteran quarterbacks Bret Courville and Jake Myers will be vying for the starting position. Both are looking good in spring training, and Coach Sid Edwards could end up alternating the duo.
All-Stater Gary Triplett, who will be a junior in the fall, is already in top form.
The most interesting competition may be for running back where Central has an array of talent that is stunning. Sophomore running back Justin Vessel, who did not play last year in order to concentrate on his grades, is only 15 but has a talent level that should attract the attention of every college scout in Louisiana. Lamonte Juneau, who started early last season, is back and appears ready to ring up the TD’s.
Senior Jaylon Morris is also a first class prospect for RB. Just to make things interesting, several other players will fill in at RB, including Courville, Myers, Triplett, and standout WR Devon Gales.
With unprecedented offensive talent, Central coaches will have their work cut out for themselves, just to figure out who to give the ball to. Too bad they only let one person run at a time.
