Tanglewood Tops State in Testing By 3rd Graders, Begins Program On Character
CENTRAL — Results from the 2010-2011 iLEAP demonstrate that Tanglewood students are the top performing third graders in Louisiana for the second year in a row. More than 96 percent of Tanglewood third graders are performing at basic or above in ELA.
Along with the entire Central Community School District, Tanglewood will begin a new approach to Character Education this year by implementing The Leader in Me. The Leader in Me is based on the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen Covey. It teaches leadership skills to very young children. The premise of The Leader is Me are the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People:
• Habit 1: Be Proactive – Take responsibility
• Habit 2: Begin with the End in Mind – Have a plan
• Habit 3: Put First Things First – Work first, then play
• Habit 4: Think Win-Win – Everyone can win
• Habit 5: Seek First to Understand, then to be Understood – Listen before you talk
• Habit 6: Synergize – Together is better
• Habit 7: Sharpen the Saw – Balance feels best
Leader in Me is integrated into the school curriculum and utilizes a “common language” for students and staff to use.
