Barry Ivey Elected to State House

CENTRAL — Central businessman Barry Ivey, 33, won election to the Louisiana House from House District 65 in a Special Election Saturday.  Ivey earned 53 percent to 47 percent for Metro Councilman Scott Wilson.

The vote total was 2,202 for Ivey and 1,953 for Wilson.

Ivey carried all but three precincts.  He won a majority in both Central and Southeast Baton Rouge.  It was a low turnout election with only 15 percent of the registered voters going to the polls.

Both Ivey and Wilson are Republicans, and both ran as conservatives.  Ivey will be sworn in soon after the results are certified, and he will be able to serve during the upcoming Regular Session of the Louisiana Legislature.

Wllson will remain on the Metro Council.  The election was held to fill a vacancy left by the resignation of Rep. Clif Richardson.  Richardson returned to Central Saturday after three months at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston.  A friend said he is doing much better.
